The Rushed Stewards

Candid Thoughts

The architecture of our society is built on a quiet, unspoken agreement. We often forget that the river dictates the course of the stone, yet we routinely look to the rigid banks for our direction. Today, I’ve been thinking about the nature of authority, where it comes from, and who we allow to hold it.

The true weight belongs to the many,

The quiet, steady hum of the forest floor.

It is the shared breath of the governed,

That breathes life into the towering canopy.

A throne is, after all, only a wooden chair,

Unless the room provides its silent permission.

But who wears the heavy cloaks we spun in our sleep?

We delegated the loom to hurried hands.

Faces fresh from the lingering echo of school bells,

Handed a fleeting season of rapid instruction.

A brief autumn of learning the shape of the sword,

Before stepping out as the final word in the square.

Can wisdom truly be gathered in a few short months?

Can the vast, complicated ocean of human error

Be navigated by a vessel built over a single summer?

They wear the heavy metal forged by our collective trust,

Yet it is wielded by solitary, unseasoned hands,

A swift costume masking a still-growing tree.

The mandate of the village is a sacred, heavy thing,

Not a prize to be pinned on a chest after a twelve-week drill.

When the roots forget they are the source of the water,

The hastily trained branches begin to act like the sky.

So walk carefully beneath their narrow gaze.

Offer a polite nod to the rushed stewards of the street,

But keep your deepest truths safely behind your own door.

Remember that the authority they parade is borrowed from your pulse.

And those who study the storm for only a fleeting moment,

Should never be given our blind faith to command the rain.

We must always remember that the foundation holds up the house, not the other way around. When we forget where the center of gravity lies, we risk giving ourselves over to an illusion of safety, curated by those who have barely learned the world themselves.
